Opening Reception July 31 6-9PM
Ali Gray Gallery is pleased to present Birds of a Feather, a group exhibition inspired by the birds, nests, and natural landscapes that help define Provincetown and the Outer Cape.
Surrounded by dunes, marshes, forests, shoreline, and protected conservation land, Provincetown has long offered sanctuary to both wildlife and artists alike. This exhibition celebrates that connection through works that explore themes of nesting, migration, belonging, guardianship, resilience, and the beauty of the natural world. The exhibition features the work of Marcia Crumley, Beth Faherty, Julia Hechtman, Jill Madden, Maureen McCarron, and Kate McConnell, each bringing a distinct artistic voice and interpretation to the subject matter.
Marcia Crumley's encaustic bird paintings combine luminous layers of wax, bold color, and expressive detail to create joyful interpretations of familiar feathered visitors. Beth Faherty contributes vibrant works alive with color, energy, and bold expression. Julia Hechtman's ceramic Spirit Birds were created in honor of birds that perished in Iceland, resulting in sculptural forms that feel both reverent and symbolic. Guest artist Jill Madden joins the exhibition with expressive oil paintings of birds that capture both movement and personality. Maureen McCarron's captivating birds feel at once familiar and mysterious, watchful beings suspended somewhere between nature and imagination. Kate McConnell's oil paintings of nests reflect quiet observation and reverence for the intricate structures found in nature.
Together, the artists create a visual tribute to the wildlife, habitats, and protected spaces that continue to shape the spirit of Provincetown. Birds of a Feather invites viewers to pause, observe, and reconnect with the fragile and extraordinary natural world that surrounds us.
