Opening Reception August 14 from 6-9 PM

Ali Gray Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new encaustic works by Ross Ozer, whose richly layered geometric paintings invite viewers into a world of pattern, rhythm, color, and precision.

Ozer’s visual language began unexpectedly in a college quilting class, where he became fascinated by the structure and repetition found within traditional quilt blocks. Over time, he began recognizing these same geometric systems across cultures, textiles, architecture, and modernist design. What began with fabric and stitching has evolved into a highly refined encaustic practice rooted in repetition, variation, and meticulous construction.

Working between Provincetown and Greater Boston, Ozer creates paintings that balance order and spontaneity. Each piece begins as a digital composition, where shape, palette, and structure are carefully explored before being transferred onto wood panels using rice paper and encaustic medium. Layer by layer, pigmented wax is applied using a heated stylus, building intricate surfaces composed of thousands of individual dots.

The resulting works feel both architectural and deeply meditative. Circular forms pulse against structured grids, creating movement, depth, and visual tension that shift as the viewer moves closer. While grounded in geometric systems, the paintings never feel rigid. Instead, they reveal subtle imperfections, optical movement, and moments of surprise that reward slow looking.

This exhibition highlights Ozer’s continued exploration of pattern as both structure and expression, transforming simple repeated forms into complex and immersive visual experiences.
